In this world all of the gods from all of the religions are real, however they work on a planet, start life and then establish their religion/afterlife system and move on to another planet; although, it’s not uncommon for gods to stay behind to keep an eye on things. Christianity is no different, although God leaving is a more recent development compared to some of the other deities. Because there are two ‘sides’ (Heaven and Hell still working against each other to claim souls among their believers) there are a lot of politics among the two societies and between them. Both Heaven and Hell have a hierarchy among those who serve each place as a way to maintain order and to establish a power balance.

The Heavenly Host from highest to lowest:

God- Self-explanatory, I would say

Archangels- The most powerful Angels and warriors of God, they’re the generals and the CEOs who make sure everything is running smoothly and according to Plan. They got made first, so they got the best seat in the house.

Seraphim- These are those annoying bosses who micromanage everyone else because the Archangels have More Important Things to do.

Guardians- These are a lower rank of warriors, they are set to protect Humans who are important in the eyes of Heaven, such as saints or world-changing inventors, etc.

Messengers- They deliver messages, not only to Humans from God or Heaven, but also among other Angels.

Watchers- These are the eyes and the ears of God and the Archangels, their job is just to observe and report.

--All Angels have wings that they can hide from Humans if they so choose. Seraphim and a few of the Archangels have six, but all of the other classes of Angels only have two. While the wings will always be lighter, each Angel has a color hue to their wings based on what type of Angel they are.

Those of Hell from highest to lowest:

Lucifer- Also pretty self-explanatory

Demis- Only a bit more powerful than Demons, they are made up of some of the first Demons and Demons who got ‘promoted’ they’re the ones who make sure things go they should and give orders when necessary.

Demons- They are the ones who most often cut deals with Humans and run around ensuring certain things happen at the right time to corrupt people’s souls. They’re sort of the catch-all, what the Sirens and Chaotics don’t do, the Demons take care of.

Sirens- As their name suggests, these are the beings that call Humans into temptation, often to their own ruin.

Chaotics- So you know when you have that large stack of boxes and you’re absolutely certain you’ve got it but then it’s like something pushes it over and the boxes go flying? That was a chaotic. They’re there to make everyone’s life just that much more difficult.

--Only the Demis and Demons have wings which they can hide if they choose to. The wings are leathery and bat-like in appearance and their color is solid. While Demis have pick of their color, Demons have the color of the Demi they’ve pledged loyalty to, if applicable, otherwise, their wings are plain black.

□ History: Archaes was born a human well over 3000 years before modern day. He was born to the Waswahili people in what would eventually be Kenya and his mother named him Tendaji (“Makes things happen”) in the hope that his name would be prophetic of what he would become. She was a very powerful and strong woman among her people and she wanted Tendaji to follow in her footsteps. She taught him how to rule and gain respect from others by gaining power and strength. While she was strong, she wasn’t as physically strong as the men in her group, so she gained her influence by being clever and outsmarting those who challenged her. These are the skills she taught Tendaji, enforcing for him that he needed both strength and cunning to get the power he was after.

Tendaji’s mother died when he was a young adult, leaving him with only her teachings to thrive on and thrive he did. Despite the obstacles of having no influential mother or father, Tendaji made certain he was not overlooked or passed by, he made certain his voice was heard and his skills stood out and never forgot what his mother had taught him about gaining respect from those around him.

However, he wasn’t the only main player in the race for the next leader and Tendaji found he didn’t quite have what he needed to be stronger than his main opposition; left to his own devices, he would fall by the wayside and possibly never get to be the leader his mother wanted him to be nor have the power and influence he wanted to have. Then one day, while he was out in the forest alone, he met Xanthe.

Xanthe had pale white skin and bright golden hair, something Tendaji had never seen before, so she entranced him, making it easy for her to seduce him. He would often go out to meet her in her home in the trees, but he never once told anyone about her out of a selfish desire to keep her his secret. During one of their meetings, he told her about his struggle for power to rule his people and about his mother who had dreamed he would someday. Xanthe promised Tendaji she could give him the power he needed, but he would only have it for ten years and then he would be bound to her and he would have to return with her to where she had come from.

Tendaji immediately accepted and found he was suddenly far stronger than any of his people, including the man who had bested him before. Using this new found power, he challenged and easily overcame his competition and took over as the leader of his people. For the next ten years, he ruled unchallenged with an iron fist and matching will. He made many improvements for his people by the time the ten years ran out and even took on a promising successor for when he knew he would inevitably leave.

The anniversary of his deal came and Xanthe returned to him. Together, they quietly left the village and disappeared into the forest. The next time anyone would see Tendaji would be upon finding his heavily mauled body in the forest, something he requested so that no man could claim to have bested him-- just as his mother had died years before.

Xanthe instantly took Tendaji's soul and twisted it into a demon, returning the man's original appearance to him. As she had grown heavily attached to him, Xanthe took him under her wing and taught him everything about Demons and the politics of Hell. Seeing as Archaes was not Christian, he was unfamiliar with Hell, its existence, or how it ran and equally unfamiliar with the concept of Heaven and Angels, in order to thrive in his new home, Xanthe agreed to share everything she knew; knowledge no human was privy to.

She explained to him that, a long time ago, gods came together to create this world and everything on it. It was common for a group of gods to collaborate in the creation and then, depending on the agreement, they either made everything or they set up the building blocks, lit the fuse and watched what would come of their world. Earth was the latter option.

Humans developed from their creation and they each took a section of the world and it’s peoples to teach them about the gods who had made them, placing the foundation for their respective religions. It was this way that she explained that the Grecian’s Underworld and Elysian Fields were just as real as Heaven and Hell, for the respective gods had made it that way for the people who believed in their respective faith.

After the religious structure was in place, most of the gods responsible would leave Earth and move on to do the same to other planets with maybe one or two remaining simply to observe the happenings on another plane of existence. Christianity was no different. God established a Heaven for those who were kind and loving and generally selfless to be ruled by his Archangels. He then made a Hell for those who did evil or wrong as punishment, deciding it was to be led by a monster he would create. When one of the Archangels he’d created rebelled (Lucifer) he was banished from Heaven, but seeing as God still loved His creation, He put Lucifer as ruler of Hell instead.

Much like the angels and their hierarchy, Lucifer made his own hierarchy in Hell starting with a handful of Demis who would then go on to make Demons, Sirens and Chaotics from human souls who would normally spend the rest of eternity in Hell, giving them a sort of second life in service to Hell.

She explained that while Heaven and Hell were in a sort of rivalry, each trying to claim and keep as many souls for themselves as possible, there was rarely any real ‘war’ or struggle between the two realms, more like layer upon layer of politics and etiquette. This was why Archaes met an Angel all of once in his life--it was an unremarkable accident of timing--the two sides rarely ever met.

Her explination over, Xanthe encouraged him to take on a new name to signify the start of his new life; this is when he took on the name ‘Archaes.’ Despite the new name, Archaes was truly no different than Tendaji and the same iron will and teachings his human mother had given him directed his actions. He quickly learned the same things he'd learned when he was young was no different now that he was a demon; including the fact the strength and cunning gained power which granted influence, thus putting him on a new goal of gaining as much power as he desired within the hierarchy of Hell.

Archaes spent the next thousand years building a name for himself in Hell since a reputation was often times half the battle for power and influence in Hell. He was so good at what he did (corrupting souls, making deals and causing general chaos) that when Xanthe petitioned to turn him into a Demi, the petition passed with minimal trouble. He then spent another thousand years establishing himself in his new role, proving himself one of the strongest and most capable Demis of Hell.

With his new found power and status, Archaes remembered his mother’s teachings that one should only garnish as much power as they could handle or else it would destroy them, and stopped his power-seeking ways, choosing instead to sit back and enjoy his well-earned position.

With no real ‘finish line’ in sight, his newfound spare time left Archaes a lot more laid-back than he'd ever been. He was comfortable on the level he had found himself and didn't desire to climb any higher, so he dedicated himself to the occasional large-scale deals and corruption required of him while the rest if his time was spent finding out what it was he actually enjoyed doing outside of his life's pursuit. He discovered he liked all kinds of theater, pasta dishes and icy desserts and filled his time with travel and new experiences. He also spent a decent amount of time in Xanthe’s bed as the two had only grown closer as time went on. However, as fond of Xanthe as he was, he didn’t love her and still held her as more of a mentor than a partner.

His life was fairly consistent until a heated lover's spat between Xanthe and another Demi she kept company with, Narissa, ended in Narissa killing Xanthe. While angry himself, Archaes came to Narissa's defense and spared her of the power-stripping punishment she faced, but it was not for her sake. It was a purely politic move. Narissa was a Demi far stronger than Archaes and while letting her power be stripped would remove her as a threat, having her heavily indebted to him made her an extremely powerful ally. Archaes might have stopped pursuing power but the last thing he wanted was to have his challenged by someone who could potentially take everything he’d worked for. While it didn’t make them lovers or even friends, they kept a cordial relationship and came to each other’s aid if ever it was needed.

Another thing Archaes learned he enjoyed was pretty faces; this was how he got involved with a man named Lanister. Lanister (known by a different name at the time Archaes met him) was a Spanish farmer whose wife was dying from an illness he couldn’t afford to treat. He pleaded one night that someone help him and Archaes was the one who answered. He appreciated Lanister’s beauty and offered to cure his wife in exchange for Lanister’s soul.

Lanister agreed and, just as Xanthe had done for Archeas thousands of years before, he disappeared and let Lanister live his life for ten years. When his time was up, Archaes returned and struck Lanister down with the very illness Archaes had cured in their deal. He then took the man’s soul and turned him into a demon for purely selfish reasons; Archaes knew Lanister was not Demon-material, yet he created him and became his mentor anyway simply because he was attracted to him.

The two grew close over their centuries together and while Lanister never truly became the demon he needed to be to survive, under Archaes’ protection and leniency, he did okay for himself. For Archaes’ part, he honestly fell in love with Lanister, not that it would necessarily seem like it from an outside perspective, but he did honestly want Lanister’s happiness and safety. For the first time in his life, he cared for another being as much as he cared for himself.

It was this desire--and the fact Lanister would inevitably end up burning out and falling prey to others in Hell despite Archaes’ protection--that ultimately led to Archaes’ demise. A young minister tracked Archaes down and challenged him in an attempt to kill him. She was powerful, but Archaes was stronger and he knew he’d be able to defeat her.

However, in the middle of the fight, the clash of holy and demonic energy sparked a premonition for Archaes, one where he saw Lanister completely happy and wrapped in a feeling of comfort and safety and all because he was with the minister Archaes was currently fighting. He knew that, should he kill her, that would never come to pass; with no other guarantee that he’d be able to protect Lanister in the long run, Archaes did the only non-selfish thing in his life and threw the fight, allowing the minister to win.

□ Personality: If confidence is the greatest friend then Archaes has an army of close friends. He lives and breathes confidence, everything he does and every decision he makes he is sure will be the right one because he believes in his knowledge and strength. This is not to say that he can’t be wrong, he just often won’t accept he is unless it’s proven to him. If he is shown he’s wrong, then even that he takes in stride and keeps going.

There is very little that makes him falter or hesitate, he sees hesitation as weakness and stemmed from a lack in self-esteem. However, confidence does breed arrogance and this is Archaes’ weakness. It hasn't happened to him yet, but if he were to come face-to-face with something he couldn't out-charm or overpower, he wouldn't know how to handle it and would become frustrated and vengeful on whoever or whatever it was, prompting him to strive for equality with this obstruction if not dominance over it.

A lot of this is bred from the fact that, all his life, he has sought a power level that he was comfortable with. His mother taught him well when she taught him to be power-hungry; not only did she show him how to seek out and obtain power, she taught him when to decide he’d reached a plateau he liked, arguing that too much of any one thing would destroy a man and that included power. Ever since Archaes was young, he sought to either be the strongest or the most cunning so he could out maneuver or defeat anyone in his way. This abundance of ambition came into play when his mother died. His ambition drove him to make the decisions that he did for the rest of his life, all the way to when he reached the highest level of power in Hell under Lucifer—because why have all of that baggage when he could have power and freedom.

Whereas before (in his Human and early Demon life) he was often times cruel and relentless in his goals, once he achieved his goal of being a Demi and found himself without something to strive towards, he mellowed out and became a lot more laid back—again, a side-effect of having so much power is the confidence that you will never lose that power and that was what happened to Archaes.

For the most part, he was right. No one challenges Demis except other Demis and comfortable in that knowledge he was able to build for himself an existence and leadership code he was happy with. While he grew to be more laid back than perhaps other Demis were, he still ruled the Demons under him with an iron fist and firm expectation that they would adhere to his rules or face consequences. He demanded all deals be made and upheld with integrity and that all Demons would make a deal when profitable at the time it was presented to them—unless it interfered with another Demi’s territory or it was too big a deal for the Demon to broker themselves, they were to take it then and there without hesitation. However, he was far from a perfect ruler. He played favorites and those he held a higher affection for could run around with more freedom in their deals than those he didn’t care as much for: an example being in the case of his favorite lover, Lanister, whom he seldom demanded make deals as frequently as any other Demon under his name.

Archaes has fearsome power, as do all Demis of Hell—it comes with the name—but a lot of Archaes ruling power and sway comes in his presentation and how he carries himself. He stands and sits up straight, while relaxed, there is an undeniable air of assuredness in what he does that demands respect from those around him. And he does demand it, he just does so silently right along with the undercurrent of threat that all of his subordinates know is there; that if they should mess up they will know the anger and cruelty that put Archaes in the seat of power he holds. He is soft-spoken and somewhat eccentric in the way that he refuses to use contractions in his speech, but he is the sort that speaks quietly in an argument so that those around him have to talk more quietly to hear him. In the end, Archaes follows the old adage: speak softly and always carry a big stick.

□ Age: Well over 3000 years old
□ Gender: Male

□ Appearance: Archaes stands at 6’ 4” and weighs about 205 lbs. He has black hair and golden-brown eyes and very dark skin. He always walks with his head held high and his shoulders squared. He never wears what others would consider ‘casual’ clothes, such as jeans and a t-shirt, preferring the nice middle ground between that and suit of a dress shirt and slacks combination. His favorite shades to wear are jewel-tones and anything else solid and eye-catching.

□ Abilities/Powers: Demis and Demons alike get their base power and strength from Hell, but whereas Demons cannot perform reality-warping deals without the soul energy of the Human they’re making a deal with, Demis have this power on their own. However, theirs is more heavily tied to their connection to Hell, consequently, some of Archaes’ powers will be only a shadow of what they would normally be if he were back home. Said limitations will be indicated by a pair of brackets.

-Teleportation: Archaes can teleport himself to any known location with only a thought and the desire to do so [Limited to places he knows very well/has frequented many times]

-Pyrokenetics: Archaes can produce his own fire as well as manipulate fires around him [He can only produce a fire no bigger than a palm-sized fireball]

-Telekinesis: He can manipulate objects around him with only his will [This is limited to objects no bigger than a car and manipulating people will be on an ooc-permission basis.]

-Flight: He has a pair of deep violet wings (bat-like) that he can display and hide at will [They will not be accessible to him until he reaches the proper level in-game]

-Regeneration from earthly wounds (shot, stabbed, etc.)

-Healing (of others) [Limited to large wounds, he cannot heal a fatal wound while not connected to Hell]

-Able to sense other Demons and Angels: Archaes can sense what another person’s species is, as long as he knows the species. If he doesn’t then all he can tell is that they’re ‘not human’ [Restricted to the immediate area around him]

-Reality Warping: Due to his ability to make and carry out deals, Archaes has a certain level of reality warping to allow him to ‘grant wishes’ as it were. [Game breaking power that it is, it will always be limited to small, non-living items that someone could feasibly buy or make]

□ Personal Items: A pewter necklace in the shape of an Angel’s wing (the left one), his iphone (every self-respecting demon has one these days), Dante’s Divine Comedy, a few of his favorite dress shirt/slack outfits, his overcoat and his dagger.
